Lagos state government launched the Produce for Lagos programme alongside a ₦500Today, we launched the Produce for Lagos programme alongside a ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund.

Image
His Excellency, govetnor Sanwo-Olu wrote: This initiative ensures we are taking concrete steps to make Lagos, and Nigeria as a whole, more food secure, more self-reliant, and better positioned to grow our agricultural sector in a real, lasting way. Lagos is the biggest food market in Nigeria. We consume more than half of the food traded in the South-West, and our food economy is worth over ₦16 trillion. That’s huge, and it tells us two things: the demand is there, and the opportunity to build a strong, local supply chain is there too. What this programme does is simple. It connects our farmers and producers directly to the Lagos market. We are offering guaranteed offtake, easier access to finance, and real support with logistics. It is about growing food, creating jobs, cutting waste, and helping more people earn a living from agriculture. We’re not doing this alone. This is a partnership between the government and the private sector. It is being implemented through the Lagos Food...

Customes to replace multiple import levies with unified 4%FOB charge

The Federal Government has now replaced the old import fees with a single, straightforward 4% charge, which is called a unified charge. Before now, importers were paying different hidden and confusing fees like the 1% CISS and 7% collection charges. This new system is much simpler and easier to understand. This move will help importers plan better and won’t be hit with surprise costs, making things more predictable. The process has also moved to the B’Odogwu digital platform, which means faster cargo clearance, less human interference, and fewer chances for corruption or illegal payments. All in all, this new setup is expected to lower the cost of bringing goods into the country. And when importers spend less, it can help bring down the prices of goods in the market or at least stop them from rising too fast. It’s a step towards running our ports in a more modern, globally accepted way.

The cosmetic clinic had offered a tempting package — discounted surgery, free airfare, and accommodation — a deal too good to pass up. She brought her sister along for support. While Kaydell was taken into surgery, her sister waited for hours. Every time she asked, clinic staff told her, "She’s almost done." But then came the shock — Kaydell had died during the procedure. Instead of answers, the clinic handed the grieving sister a refund and a return plane ticket, offering no explanation for what went wrong. Now, as the family reels from grief and confusion, the clinic's surgeon denies any wrongdoing ...

I trusted her to be neutral, not sleeping with my husband!” Folakemi cried out in court, insisting that the lawyer’s relationship with Emmanuel started while the legal process was still ongoing.   She alleged that the said lawyer, by virtue of her position, manipulated the process to her own advantage, leaving her short-changed in the...

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday celebrated his victory at the Federal High Court in Lagos by sharing a meal of amala with site workers. Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke discharged Fayose of charges bordering on money laundering and theft involving ₦6.9 billion, after upholding a no-case submission filed by his legal team.  The judge ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission failed to establish a prima facie case or directly link him to the alleged crimes. Fayose was first arraigned in 2018 before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, but the case was later transferred to Justice Aneke.  The EFCC had accused him of receiving ₦1.2 billion for his 2014 governorship campaign and allegedly collecting $5 million in cash from former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, without routing it through any financial institution.  Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has stepped up its efforts to clean up the platform, announcing the removal of over 10 million fake profiles and 500,000 spam accounts in the first half of 2025. The company said the action forms part of a broader crackdown on impersonation, copycat content, and fake engagement, all aimed at promoting originality and ensuring that genuine creators receive greater visibility. According to Meta, the clampdown also targets accounts that recycle or repost content from others without permission or meaningful changes. Such accounts will not only lose access to monetisation tools but will also see their content reach reduced on Facebook feeds. “We’re making progress. In the first half of 2025, we took action on around 500,000 accounts engaged in spammy behaviour or fake engagement. We also removed about 10 million profiles impersonating large content producers,” Meta said in a blog post on Monday. The tech giant explained that repeatedly sharing...

UK Tightens Skilled Worker Visa Rules After July 22

Big changes are coming to the UK’s Skilled Worker visa route starting July 22, 2025. The updated rules will raise salary thresholds and tighten eligibility, especially impacting Indian tech workers, engineers, and healthcare professionals. But after that, higher salary requirements could lock out many skilled applicants. The new rules are part of the UK government’s effort to curb immigration and prioritise British jobseekers — but it’s raising concern in global talent circles, especially in India, one of the top sources of skilled migrants to the UK. Nigeria’s FX reserves to hit $41bn as naira seen sustaining gains

Nigeria’s foreign exchange (FX) reserves is expected to rise to $41 billion by year-end, marginally higher than what was recorded in 2024, with the naira sustaining its gains, CardinalStone said in its mid-year outlook. The rise in the FX reserves is attributed to plans by the federal government to raise a combined $3.2 billion in the second half of the year to meet some of its fiscal priorities. Likely inflows from portfolio investors are expected to also support this projection. “These proposed external borrowings, alongside other anticipated inflows, will likely boost the FX reserves to $41.00 billion by year-end, compared to $37.27 billion as of H1’25,” the Lagos-based research and investment firm said in its report. A larger external reserve bodes well for the naira as the research firm sees the local currency maintaining the N1,550.00 — N1,635.00/$ bandwidth through the end of 2025. Nigeria’s FX reserves has shed more than $3.5 billion year-to-date as the central bank paid ...

Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, joining Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan. “Any country aligning itself with the anti-American policies of BRICS will be charged an additional 10 per cent tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” Trump wrote on social media. Leaders of the BRICS group kicked off a summit in Brazil on Sunday with President Bola Tinubu present among other nations in the group that Trump sees as an anti-U.S. coalition. The original BRICS group gathered leaders from Brazil, Russia, India and China at its first summit in 2009. The bloc later added South Africa and last year included Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as members. Tinubu, invited by Brazilian President Lula da Silva, voiced Nigeria’s support for BRICS’s push towards inclu...
